Twin Lakes Campground

We went to Atlanta to watch my niece Liz graduate from Emory Law School.  The trip there was uneventful, unless you count the error I made on GPS that caused Dave to have to back up over a block on a narrow, uphill street.  I was afraid he would be mad and we would have our first fight.  Nope!  He is such a keeper!

We spent our first day here touring the Atlanta History Museum near downtown Atlanta.

The museum had several wings.  One on Civil War history, another on Native American civilizations of the area, another on the history of Atlanta and others.

One wing had a BBQ America section and included Minnesota’s own Spam?

They also displayed a tribute to Bobby Jones the famous golfer.

There were also some out buildings on the museum grounds.  One being an upscale home from the 1920’s and 30’s.  It was over the top and reminded me of the book and movie “The Help”.

Sunday was Mother’s Day.  Before touring Stone Mountain, my three nieces treated their mom, grandma and two aunts to a picnic lunch in the park.  They did an awesome job!  My brothers were on a roll, picking on their favorite (only) sister and Dave was no help…  to me that is.  I think he helped my brothers a lot.

The following are pictures from a train ride around the mountain.

A movie set of a fake western town.

The carving of Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson on Stone Mountain.

There was a museum on the park grounds.  Much of it was the scientific info about how Stone Mountain was formed.  We were tired and more interested in a different kind of history so skipped much of it except for a movie about the Battle of Atlanta during the Civil War.

Monday dawned hot, but Liz’s graduation was a beautiful success.

Liz with her Mom and Dad and sisters Jessica and Leanne.

With Mom and Dad, by brother Kent and his wife Dianne.

With us.  I was thrilled when Liz called Dave “my new Uncle Dave”!

With my brother Galen and his wife Darlene.

With boyfriend David.

The graduate!

We spent one more day in the Atlanta area, entertaining Kent and Dianne and three nieces at our camp site.  It was great to see so much of my family.
