Casa Grande 10-28-24

Beaumont, Texas

We got up early on October 28, eager to be on the road but sad to leave Mississippi.  we also knew it would be a long day.  It actually took less time than than we had expected, and some Louisiana freeways were not as bad as they used to be.

We stayed at a Boondockers Welcome home outside of Beaumont, Texas.  It was a beautiful home.  Boo was not sure what to make of the donkey braying.

San Antonio, Texas

The next day we reached Braunig Lake RV Resort for a 3 night stay. We had stayed here before. It is close to San Antonio. A jack knifed semi near by caused some delay and a detour as we got close but not too bad.

We had hoped to meet up with friends Eileen and Kevin Murphy on Wednesday but that did not work out due to some medical issues. We were disappointed but could certainly understand.

Instead, we decided to explore Luckenbach and Fredericksburg, both about 1 1/2 miles away and Boo could come with us. We sat down and Dave went to get us a couple of beers when he realized he had forgotten his wallet!!!!! I rarely carry my purse. We had our checkbook in the truck but they did not take checks…. long ride together but we did not get to do much. Dave was so worried I would be mad at him. I think he was remembering something from his past…right? It really was no big deal and a nice day to see Hill Country.

On Halloween, we wandered in to San Antonio. We wanted to take a river tour. After parking, it took us a bit to find where to get the tickets. Eventually we found the ticket office and were directed to the correct place along the River Walk. There, we were “hijacked” into coming back later for a free ride, vouchers for dinner and other things, all for the price of $20 each. We went along with that. We had a lot of time to spare so wandered about more, having beer at one of our favorite haunts, Dick’s Last Chance.

We had to go catch up with our group for the presentation which turned out to be a time share sale. Dave said he had known that but I had not. We indicated from the start that we were not interested so they did an abbreviated pitch to us.

Back to the Walk and we found a spot for supper which was delicious with a very good waiter. He said it was his second day but he was a pro.

Time to leave for our river ride in the dark. That is impossible to describe so I will let the pictures tell the tale.

November 1 and we had some plans for more touring before getting to Casa Grande but I had an itch to get home so we revised our plans. That night, we stayed in the parking lot at WalMart in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Dave locked me out of the rig while he went to buy groceries so Boo and I chatted with the security guard.

November 2 found us home in Casa Grande!!!!!
