John Wayne Birthplace, Winterset, IA 9-25-18

Continuing our slow drive toward Mississippi, we stopped for a few days in Winterset, Iowa.  The campground here is owned by the city and is gorgeous.  They even have a small maze that was fun to explore.

Some deer were spying on the campground.

We spent an afternoon exploring more covered bridges, which seems to be one of our themes as we travel.  These were featured in the movie “The Bridges of Madison County.

Holliwell Bridge built in 1880.

The Cedar bridge was built in 1883.  The Cedar was featured on the book cover of “The Bridges of Madison County”.  It is being rebuilt after an arson.

The Hogback Bridge builtin 1884.

Roseman Bridge built 1883

Cutler-Donahue Bridge built in 1871.

Winterset is also the birth place of John Wayne.  We did not visit the museum but took some pictures.

Our day and trip to Winterset wound down with a brew in a Green Bay Packer Fan bar, the Pheasant Run Pub & Grill.
