Vicksburg, MS 10-8-18

We are on our last leg of journey to Petal, Mississippi where Dave’s sister lives.  On the way, we saw some cotton being harvested and baled.  Cotton bales sure look different from hay bales!

We traveled past the town that had a Japanese “Relocation” camp during World War II.  We really wanted to tour the museum but it was a Monday and they are closed on Mondays.  This was unfortunate as it was quite a ways from our last campground and the next one too.

The main reason we wanted to stay in Vicksburg for a couple of days was to tour the Vicksburg National Military Park.  This park is so well laid out and has the best signage of any battlefield.  There are so many monuments to the men who fought here.  There are large monuments to the states and smaller one commemorating each division.

Wisconsin memorial.  Wisconsin was where Dave’s Great Grandfather, John, enlisted.  He served under General Sherman.  Sherman fought alongside  Grant at this battle.
