Covered Bridges 7-7-18

Ohio is known for its covered bridges.  We found a couple of route and combined them into one, for an afternoon on the bike.

Middle Bridge, Conneaut, built in 1868.

State Bridge, Conneaut, built in 1983.

Creek Bridge, Conneaut.  Construction date unknown, renovated in 1994.

Benetka  Bridge, Sheffield Township, build about 1900.

Olin Bridge, Plymouth Township, built in 1873.

Smolen-Gulf bridge, Ashtabula.  This is the longest covered bridge in the US.  It was dedicated in 2008 and has a life expentancy of 100 years.

Riverview Bridge, Ashtabula.  Dedicated in 2016, this is another longer bridge but is for foot traffic only.

Giddings Bridge, Jefferson, built 1995.

Doyle Bridge, Jefferson, built 1868.

West Liberty Bridge, Geneva, is the shortest covered bridge in the US.

Harpersfield Bridge, Geneva, built in 1868, is the 2nd longest bridge in Ohio.  A steel addition was added after a 1913 flood altered the course of the river.

Mechanicsville Bridge, Geneva, built 1867.

Netcher Bridge, Jefferson, opened in 1999.

South Denmark Bridge, Jefferson, built in 1895.

Caine Bridge, Pierpont Township, built in 1986.

Graham Bridge, Pierpont Township.  This is the only bridge on our tour that no longer covers a stream or river.

Root Bridge, Conneaut, built in 1868.
