First time out on the bike, since last fall in Minnesota. We rode about 100 miles back west, from where we had come, to seen this quaint little town. There were cute shops to browse through but as usual, we gravitated to a local microbrewery, Oyster City Brewing Company. Jo was able to get some bar popcorn, which she loves. (The bars in the south don’t seem to offer this and it has been missed!)
We sat at a table outside in the sun, watching the surroundings, in 73 degree weather. One couple we chatted with briefly were from Minneapolis – small world. We spent a long time talking with a couple from Tallahassee, who spend a lot of time in Apalachicola. They clued us in to a couple of places to visit. Unfortunately, we did not get their names or pictures. Next time, we will get a selfie with the people we meet.
Our first stop was Up the Creek Raw Bar where Dave convinced Jo to try raw oysters on the half shell. If you eat them quickly and concentrate on the spices and parmesan, they aren’t bad! Jo had delicious crab cakes. We were sitting in an enclosed patio and stepped a foot or two away to open a window for an unobstructed view of the river. When we turned around, our empty plates and almost full beers were gone! We ran back inside and were given beer replacements…
Before leaving town, we stopped at the 13 Mile Seafood Market for a fresh Red Grouper filet. The staff double bagged this in ice for us, to keep it fresh on our way back to our campground. The intention was for Jo to cook this for supper the next day. She didn’t have much experience cooking fresh fish but advice from the friends we had met and Google, proved to be successful.
One more stop, half way back to camp was for blackened shrimp at Poseys Up the Creek Steam Room in Panacea. One of the sides was cheese grits, another first for Jo and very good.
The temp changed drastically by the time we got back to the RV camp. It was down to 50 degrees. We were both thankful for leather pants and jackets. This may be Florida but it is still winter for them too!!
