Most of our friends that we met last winter will be in in Gulf State Park, in Gulf Shores, Alabama for a couple of months. It is only about 150 miles from Jane’s house so we had reservations to visit the friends for a few days. We met up with Tom and Roxi, Todd and Beth, Phil and Jan. Sadly, John and Laurie were unable to come south this year. They are greatly missed and prayers are sent for the issues they are facing.
We only had two full days here, after the afternoon check-in on day one. After greeting everyone, Dave and I headed to the pier first, then a walk on the beach. The sand actually squeaks as you walk over it.
Later we went to Flori-Bama, a bar on the state line. This had been on our bucket list for a long time and we were finally able to get to it. We weren’t completely sure of our time line so had not made plans with any of the others, but Phil and Jan got there at the same time. I’m so glad they did. We had a fun afternoon playing BINGO while Jan and I drank Bushwackers. This is a frozen rum drink and is very delicious. We each had one and then shared another.
The next day, we had planned an afternoon gathering, to be followed by a potluck supper and campfire, at the only fire ring in the campground. The ring was in the circle in front of Beth and Roxi’s trailers.
Because we are on the coast and don’t have any idea when we will see the water again, we decided to go out for a seafood lunch. We headed to Mikey’s Seafood where we shared crab cakes and sauteed shrimp.
The guys decided to start the afternoon at a nearby brewery.
Meanwhile, the ladies wanted to sit in the sun. No one told me, so I wasn’t prepared, but it was a wine tasting afternoon. How fun!
We ended the evening with the shared potluck, campfire and corn row games. We had so much fun but we were so sad to miss John and Laurie.
The next morning it was time to head back to Petal. It was great seeing our friends and can’t wait to see them again some time in the future.
