Vacation time near Detroit Lakes! We parked at Hans and Nettie’s cabin on Height of Land Lake for two weeks. Dave’s grandparents bought this cabin 50 years ago!
Height of Land Lake, Hans and Nettie DuBois’ cabin. Hans and Nettie are kind enough to let us park beside their cabin.
One day we rode to Fargo to visit Dean and Karen’s home. Dave showed me the restaurant (pizza joint now) where his mom and dad met, so long ago. Dean and Karen showed us where they work at NDSU. I wish I had taken pictures. It is a beautiful campus.
The sunset is beautiful over HoL Lake.
Dave’s daughter Beth with husband Aaron and grandson Lucas arrived the next weekend, staying at Dean and Karen’s cabin. His son Mike and girlfriend Bridget also come up and stayed with Hans and Nettie. It turned into a mini Peterson reunion: Scott, Linda, Les, Jim and Mason also came up. Dean and Karen had a full house! Dean and Karen’s cabin is on Big Twin Lake, just a few minutes away from HoL.
We spent time during the day at Big Twin and back to HoL in the evenings to play games with Hans, Nettie, Mike and Bridget. Hans and Nettie taught us some fun new games, like Pegs and Jokers and 7’s. They were FUN!!!
When the weekend was over, everyone left except Dave and I. We did a little canoeing and also some bike riding.
Toes in the water…
One day we took a day trip that included lunch at Dorset, the town with the child mayor and 5 restaurants per capita. We also rode into Wadena, Ottertail and Bertha, looking for Jo’s family history. Mom was raised in Wadena. Great grandparents and other relatives are buried in Bertha.
On another day, we rode to Goodrich where Dave’s dad grew up and found his childhood home.
At the Goodrich Cafe.
Of course, we had to return to Zorbaz’. one of the first places Dave took me soon after we met.
Someone had a neat way to reach DL (Detroit Lakes)
Dave spent some time spiffing up the trailer.
