Home while we visit the Mackinaw City area was Mackinaw City Campground. We found out the reason for the two spellings, Mackinac and Mackinaw come from the Native American, French and British influences.
Ride out to Mackinac Island.
View from Fort Mackinac.
View of “Big Mac”.
Carriage on the island.
Lunch at Millies on Main.
Afternoon refreshment at Mustang Lounge.
Heading back to the mainland on the Jet Ferry.
Both Dave and I had visited Mackinac Island in the past but really enjoyed seeing it together.
On our last day in Mackinaw City, we finally got the bike out. We road around the lake and found some of the dunes.
An afternoon refreshment at Keyhole Bar & Grill where we met a guy from Miami. He is a professional diver and has worked all over the world. He is here checking natural gas lines going across the Mackinac straits looking for any unwanted movements in the line. His favorite place to dive was in the Antarctica where he monitored the underwater icecap bore drillings.
We toured the Light House. I was not able to go to the top because I was wearing flip flops but Dave climbed up and had a great view.
Of course we could not pass up the Biere de Mac Brew Works before heading back to the campground for brats.
We had fun at the camp ground, chatting first with Josh and Eileen from Michigan who were parked next to us and later joining the camp owners around their camp fire.
Crossing Big Mac for the Upper Peninsula.
On our way to UP campground, we saw these Sand Cranes, running across the highway. They are huge!
Campsite at Rippling Rivers near Marquette. We splurged and had our first campground with a swimming pool and hot tub which we enjoyed.
Last stop before Minnesota was Prentice Park City Park in Ashland, Wisconsin.
